663 million people don’t have access to clean drinking water –  and you can help change that!

Water – we take it for granted, but 663  million people in the world (twice the population of the US) do not have access to safe water.

Two weeks ago, Scott and I had the pleasure of meeting Scott Harrison, the founder of Charity:Water and hearing his story.  The story of how one man decided to change the world by finding a way to bring clean drinking water to everyone on the planet – and how Charity:Water uses 100% of all money donated to build wells.  All overhead costs are covered by private donors.

The video you will see in the link vividly shows how Scott Harrison went from a dissolute life as a nightclub promoter to selling almost everything, leaving his home and going to work on a hospital ship (and HE paid THEM $500/mo to take him as a volunteer) serving the poorest of the poor in places where there were no doctors.   He soon realized that much of the sickness was due to dirty, contaminated drinking water.  Water that women and girls, whose traditional job is gathering water, and who, in many places, still have to walk for hours every day, to fill a 5-gallon (40 pound) jerrycan.  That little bit of water must supply their whole family with water for cooking, washing and all family needs.  It is a job that often keeps girls from attending school.

Thanksgiving is coming up soon.  Why not give thanks for YOUR abundance by changing the lives – and health – of women and children?  Help Charity:Water to provide them and their families with safe, clean drinking water.  So far they have funded over 20,000 water projects, providing clean drinking water to 6.3 million people.  Only $30 provides clean water for one person.

For those who may be skeptical about charities (42% of people in the US don’t trust charities) and how they are run, this is the most transparent charity we have ever seem.  You can look at their financial statements right on their website.  You can see where every well is – and the status.  They report back regularly on what they are doing and where, when you sign up for their email.
This is a charity that is changing lives, completely transparent in their finances and one we proudly support.  Scott and I have made OUR contributions – how about you?
